When I look at what some blogs offer, I notice some say to do things, but rarely go into endorsing something in particular. Whether this has some implications for businesses or not I don't know at this point, but there are some tools that my business has used that I would like to take this week to highlight.
SharePointI've been using SharePoint for the past few years as a tool to provide group workspaces, a document library, document management, auto-mailer and a few other specialty tools. Granted I am using an older version but I have also used the newer SharePoint Online which opens up to communication between other Microsoft Office products as well (moreso that I am used to). You can give users their own logins into this collection, enable it to be through a certain connection (your building) or open it up to wherever you have access to the internet (this latter for better use/functionality for your team). I think to fully use this program it takes more than just one user with vested interest in it. Thankfully I've had a plant here in Idaho that was interested in using it to its full functionality, not just as a document storage library.
Workplace
This was a fairly recent addition at my workplace, however it became apparent through training that this was going to be our 'social media' internal network. This is primarily used by the sales to communicate back to the plants how our product is being displayed in stores, or events that are taking place that we participate in. This is a product put out by Facebook to mimic in a sense the way their platform for everyday users works, but gives it a more manageable feel, everyone can create their own interest groups and it is fairly secured to just the network of people within the company, with a company e-mail. This platform has been used for polling, sharing pictures and comments, delivering news of new employees or organizational restructuring, and to limit the amount of 'traffic' going through our e-mail system (no sending 10 MB files through e-mail, people can go to the link if they'd like to view it).
Thank you!
Gordon,
ReplyDeleteWe just started using SharePoint at my organization and so far I'm very impressed by its functionality! We are looking to transition away from our current Intranet and we're looking forward to being able to take advantage of all of its features.
Hi Sam!
DeleteI hope that you're organization is looking forward to managing their SharePoint. I'm excited to hear that they're looking to implement this with the rest of their office applications (I think this is a big step in moving away from having a lot of files only available on local servers). I'll be excited when we do transition to SharePoint Online as well because this will resolve a lot of our cross-location accessing issues when we're attempting to share information with each other.
